Cool Kids inital EP release is a breath of creativity. With pop princesses and sound alike bands taking over music these days, it's nice to find a group that sets themselves apart. The timing of creativity couldn't be better.
Overall, "Bake Sale" is masterfully written rhymes put together with some nicely creative beats - all in a retro-style hip-hop package. "Black Mags" has been out for some time and the accompanying music video made the listener curious as to exactly where this duo may be heading. The rest of the album falls in line. Every song is unique and no "fillers" added. The 10 song EP is just what an album should be.
If you get a chance to explore some popular video sharing sites, check out some of the things these guys have done. The "everything sucks" rant about today's music is dead on. Also check out some of the freestyle EP's that are floating around. They won't disappoint.

Why do I keep going back to this album?
Merriweather Post Pavilion is the album and it's crazy. The songs are so great, but unlike I've ever listened too. Animal Collective is the band. I actually started listening to Panda Bear first, one of the members of AC. It's a side project/solo album and very Phil Spectorish/wall of sound. Anyway, the point being, I started backwards into this crazy electrical, musical, looping phenomenon.
So what does it sound like: cars carrying The Beach Boys, Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett, Pere Ubu and Boards of Canada collide at an intersection and accidently exhange band members One carload stops to get stoned at Syd Barrett's house. Syd attempts to put his vinyl copy of "Endless Summer", only to discover it has melted in the sun, and fused with his copy of "Piper at the Gates of Dawn". He plays it anyway. Everyone goes in the studio next door, where the drummer passes out from too much wine and is replaced by a drum machine, calliope, and retro synths submersed in an endless ocean of reverb. Everything gets too much Digital signal processing and is slowed down by half speed, after which the Beach Boys lay down vocals.
Truely great and will be remembered as a classic. Both totally pop, and totally wierd at the same time. Track densities approach "King's Lead Hat" by Eno in some cases, and if you like textures, this is for you. Nice package too.
